Overview

Through Nebraska Methodist College’s online nursing degree program, Registered Nurses (RNs) are able to earn their Master of Science in Nursing degrees with all courses 100% online. With a Master of Science in Nursing degree, you are equipped to greatly advance your career in health care.

Within the online RN-MSN program, there are two options for degree concentrations:  Nurse Educator and Nurse Executive.  The online Nurse Educator track is designed for nurses who want to teach other nurses or move into research areas within higher education.  The online Nurse Executive track is designed for nurses who are interested in the business and management side of health care.

Degree Concentrations

Nurse Educator

The online Nurse Educator concentration is meant for those who intend to use their degrees in academic settings. Involved in this concentration are 54 total credit hours which includes 18 hours of foundation curriculum. Obtaining your MSN degree online takes 3 years to complete. It provides students with the groundwork of academic and theoretical knowledge for the academic and clinical settings, and also provides curriculum development.

Courses specific to this concentration include:  Teaching and Learning, Instructional Methods, Advanced Health Assessment, Pathophysiology & Pharmacology, Curriculum and Program Development and Evaluation, and a Practicum in Nursing Education. Students take one course online at a time, and each session lasts just 5 weeks, with a week-long break between each session. This format allows students to fully concentrate on each separate course involved in the online program.

As part of the curriculum, Nurse Educators learn to teach students and obtain experience.  Students are able to connect what they have learned in their online classroom and what they have learned while teaching in the two capstone courses involved in the concentration.

Nurse Executive

The online Nurse Executive concentration is meant for those who intend to use their degrees in managerial positions. Involved in this concentration 54 total credit hours which includes 18 hours of foundation curriculum. The focus of this concentration is on business, including financials, company deportment, and management.

Courses specific to this concentration include:  Organizational Behavior and Structure, Role of the Nurse Executive: Leading an Organization, Human Resource Management, Financial management and Economics and a Practicum in Management, Improvements and Evaluation in Health Care Organizations. Students take one course online at a time, and each session lasts just 5 weeks, with a week-long break between each session. This format allows students to fully concentrate on each separate course involved in the online program.

As part of the curriculum, Nurse Executives obtain hands-on experience during a practicum in a practice setting. In the capstone courses included in this program, students are able to connect their real-world experiences with what they have learned in the classroom setting.

This means that during your time enrolled in Nebraska Methodist College’s online program, you will have help in electing courses, automatic course registration, as well as textbooks sent to your home.
